2011 John Easson Award

After entering for the award last year and coming 2nd, I decided to give it another go. So I sent in my portfolio and
hoped to hear some good news back. The prize for this year is £4,000 entry fees and a lesson with Mark Higginseasson award 2011.

I was very pleased to hear that I got into the final 3 and went up to Preston on Friday 5th November for the interview.

I was delighted to win this prestigious award and wish to say a big thank you to the John Easson Award scheme organisers, the 2300 club and the family of the late John Easson.

I am very honoured to be the chosen winner as this gives me the opportunity to enter some selected BRC rounds in 2011. It will be a honour to carry the John Easson Award scheme decals on my car for the 2011 season.

My advice to all under 25 drivers is to enter this award next year as it is free to enter and a great award to have. It will
give me a big boost in my 2011 season.

CEM Rallyday
29th September 2010

cem rallydayCannock Electrical and Mechanical Services held a corporate rally day at Walters Arena, Glyneath. Managing Director, Gary Kenna, himself an avid raaly fan and driver invited a group of business associates to sample the feel of rallying. On hand to give his guests rides in their rally cars were Gary himself along with Shôn Rees, Neviile Jones, James Grint, Jamie Anderson and myself. Also on hand to let the guests loose in a rally car with expert tuition were James Wozencroft and Jim Ward. All organised by Geoff Jones.

For me, it was a great opportunity to get some more experience in the new car. It was very slippery in the morning but dried out nicely later. I am grateful to Gary for the opportunity to assist in his Corporate Day and have a great time myself!

Hankook Junior Training Programme - 2010

Hankook, sponsors of the MSA Welsh National Rally Championship, are running a
junior driver development training programme in 2010 in association with Colin McRae Vision. Sara attended the first of the three planned days of lectures at Stirling University
in April.

Included in the curriculum are sports psychology, nutrition and fitness regimens
along with media awareness and first aid. The day ended with a general discussion
with a question and answer session.

Overall it was a very good day, I learnt a great deal which I will now try and put into practice. So I am looking forward to the next training day immensely.”

A short YouTube video is available here... Thanks to Lindsay Photosport for the photo.

The second event of the progamme was held on July 26th at the FX Rally School at Carno in mid Wales. The emphasis here was on driver training and writing pace notes. With 2004 British Rally Champion, David Higgins on hand along with the very experienced co-driver, Ieuan Thomas, the five Welsh juniors present had a lot to take away from the day. The lunch break was honoured by the arrival of Phil Mills to give in-depth advice on his experience of the extreme lengths one must go to at the top level in the areas of nutrition and fitness, with an emphasis on the effects of dehydration which was quite a surprise to all of the participants!

"A great day, especially picking up a lot of tips from David and Ieuan. It was also very interesting to hear how top flight co-drivers like Phil Mills have to adhere to such strict fitness and nutrition regimens - amazing! Looking forward now to the final day of the Hankook Junior programme back at Stirling University on October 25th!"

I recently entered for the 2009 John Easson Award aimed at young rally drivers who
show promise in their career. The prize is worth £4000 and includes a special
offer of an entry on the Tour of Mull and assistance with expenses on other rallies.
I was both shocked and pleased to hear that I had been selected amongst the final

certainly enter again next year! In the photo with me are Mark McCulloch (the winner)
and Allan Durham, the Award Scheme Manager.

Biking for charity - 2009

On 3rd July 2009 I joined the group of Welsh rally stars on the six day bike
ride from Holyhead to Cardiff organised to raise money for Spinal Injuries Research and the Wales Air Ambulance. I rode the 33 miles stretch from
Brecon to Bargoed. Well done to all the cyclists for participating!
